The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles which lie off the northwest coast of Europe. Great Britain comprises England, Scotland and Wales. Together with Northern Ireland it forms the United Kingdom. In includes four nations: the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish people. They all differ in their way of life, customs, values and traditions. The largest cities of the UK are London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Bristol, Leeds and Edinburgh. The UK is and industrialised country - major industries include iron and steel engineering, textiles, plastics, cotton, chemicals, electronics, wool, shipbuilding and food processing. The islands are rich in mineral resources and coal mining was once a major industry. The chief agricultural products are wheat, barley, oats, potatoes, sugar beet, milk and meat
